Mobile patient lifts. What are they and which one to choose?

Mobile patient lifts. What are they and which one to choose?

Mobile lifts - hydraulic and electric. Manufactured in stainless steel for strength and durability. Mobile lifts are suitable for lifting patients from different positions and heights, reducing the risk of trauma and injury.

Moving or lifting a patient who has completely or partially lost mobility can be a difficult task. Not only is it physically demanding for caregivers or staff, but if the wrong technique is used, it can also put the patient's health at risk.

There are two types of mobile patient lifts available in the Rehastar online shop:

Electric lifts - A mobile electric lift is electrically operated, with a battery that is integrated into the design of the device. Mobile electric lifts are suitable for lifting the patient from many different positions and from many different surfaces, making them widely adaptable and easy to use. Electrical control makes it much easier to perform all the necessary operations, even adjusting the position of the lift itself. The lifts are made of steel, which makes them robust and resistant. The castors give manoeuvrability and the brakes stability.
Hydraulic lifts - A mobile hydraulic hoist is operated by a hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic lifts are a simple and convenient solution to efficiently move or lift a patient from objects of different heights: a chair, a shower seat, a bed or even the floor. Widely adaptable, hydraulic lifts can be used in different locations, are manoeuvrable and easy to transport. The lifts are equipped with wheels, some of which are equipped with a brake, making this tool robust and reliable.

Both electric and hydraulic lifts have the same patient transfer function and are designed to make daily life easier for disabled people and their carers. These lifts are particularly suited for less frequent, unforeseen or urgent lifting situations and are an effective way to ensure maximum safety where there is no ceiling lift.

What do I need to consider when choosing a mobile hoist?

  • Evaluate the lift's lifting height range to assess whether the lift is suitable for the desired height and whether it is possible to lift the patient from the ground.
  • Evaluate the maximum load capacity of the lift to know if the lift is suitable for your patient and the limits of the lift.
  • It is also important to know the expansion and contraction capabilities of the chassis to assess whether the lift is suitable for manoeuvring indoors.
  • The construction of the lift is aluminium or metal. Bear in mind that an aluminium structure will be much lighter if you are concerned with the transportation of the lift.
